HOWLS of thanks to everyone who attended a hearing or submitted a written comment to the USFWS opposing Trump’s plan to strip wolves of Endangered Species Act protections ! We couldn’t do this work without all of you 🐾 #KeepWolvesListed
ISLE ROYALE UPDATE - A gray wolf that was translocated from Minnesota to @isleroyalenps last fall has wandered back to the mainland, trekking more than 15 miles across the frozen surface of Lake Superior to reach her home turf. GPS data was used to confirm the wolf had left Isle Royale on January 31 and was near the border between northeastern Minnesota and Ontario.
Happy Valentine’s Day, friends! This year, think about sharing the love and donating $14 or more to our efforts to keep wolves protected and finally put an end to the cruel killing contests that put all species (including wolves) at risk. This year we will be fighting these contests in FULL FORCE. Every little bit helps...thank you from the bottom on our hearts for your continued love and support for our beautiful wolves and wildlife ! 💕 To offer a contribution, please visit the link in our bio. #HappyValentinesDay
On Lake Superior, the Apostle Islands are often foggy and cold—but that doesn’t make them devoid of life. In fact, carnivores are thriving there, according to new research.
Friends, your many actions, contributions, petitions, phone calls and emails to your reps in congress have made a difference for wildlife this year.
:: ISLE ROYALE UPDATE :: Tracking collars on the new @isleroyalenps wolves show there is one area they will not go. According to park staff, although the new wolves have been exploring everywhere - they are not venturing too deep into the island's south quadrant which is the assumed general territory of the resident wolves, a male and female who are so inter-related they are not likely to have viable offspring. The two older wolves have been a lone pair for years, and are the last remnants of the island's formerly robust pack system. In addition to tracking movements, the park service is also monitoring if the wolves come within 250 meters of each other. This will be critical to figuring out how the wolves are pairing up and if packs begin to form...stay tuned as we continue to watch this story unfold ! #greatlakeswolves (photo courtesy of Michigan Tech and @wolvesandmooseofisleroyale)
“Wolf critics always fear that wolves are going to kill something they value. For ranchers, it’s livestock; for hunters, it’s game; for pet owners, it’s their dogs. Living with predators is not without risk, but science and experience has shown that the risk of living with wolves is very small.
Looking for more ways you can help Great Lakes wolves?? Join our volunteer list ! We are working to better organize our supporters so when we need to TAKE ACTION we have people we can depend on to help us with campaigns, action alerts, handing out flyers, writing LTEs, contacting congress, etc.
ACTION ALERT ! We need your help to get the attention of @rickygervais to have him speak out in a PSA for wolves. Anyone with twitter, facebook, email or instagram can participate...visit the link in our bio to find out how ! Thanks for all that you do for our wolves and wildlife ❤️🐾#takeactionforwolves (photo by @johnramerphoto)
We remain grateful for every single day that this iconic species remains protected under the Endangered Species Act and out of the crosshairs of trophy hunters. Howls of thanks for all that you do to speak out for wolves and wildlife of the Great Lakes region! 🐺 #HappyThanksgiving
- BREAKING NEWS - This morning the US House of Representatives passed HR 6784, the “Manage Our Wolves Act” despite vehement public opposition from constituents, scientists, hunters and business owners. The bill calls for the removal of federal protections for all wolves in the lower 48 with language that blocks any opportunity for judicial review. Stay tuned as we continue to follow developments on capitol hill... #KeepWolvesListed
Some positive news! The @centerforbiodiv sued the @USFWS yesterday, for violating the Endangered Species Act by never providing a comprehensive recovery plan for gray wolves nationwide, which is required by the law.
